Flanking the main entrance is a pair of sphinx guarding the entrance to the Temple. These devices are comprised of a lion's body and a man's head, signifying great strength and master intelligence and are symbolic of mystery. A Sphinx is carved of Utah granite quarried in Little Cottonwood Canyon with the Celestial Sphere of Polished Eastern Onyx.
